Operations Research Officer for Gen Odierno
As the Operations Research Systems Analyst (ORSA) for the Commanding General (CG), I ensured that the numbers that were being reported were correct according to the latest data from the Combined Information Data Network Exchange (CIDNE) database.
While in theater, I developed an excel spreadsheet with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros that helped analysts from a wide variety of organizations deal with the CIDNE data base and answer the questions for their organizations. During the deployment, I was able to work on the following problems:
Database management tools for analysts working with CIDNE database.
Processed data from the intelligence community to help identify anti-government funding streams
Produced weekly products that was used by Central Command (CENTCOM) to understand the current environment
Assisted in the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of every key aspect of data used weekly by GEN Odierno for secure video teleconferences held with the President and National Security Council.
Provided GEN Odierno with an analysis of his time and an effective approach to optimize it better
One chart that needed to be updated on a weekly basis and reported to Central Command (CENTCOM)
Director of the afghan assessments group (AAG)
Organizational leader for 16 officers, civilians, and contractors from 9 different nations. The mission of the AAG was to provide Resolute Support with decision support analysis, assessments of the campaign plan, and the historical database of lessons learned within the command. An example of the decision support analysis that our team made possible was the MI-17 aircraft analysis where we produced a simulation based on input from experts in over 10 different organizations and made decisions on the future of the Afghan Air Force before they encountered a crisis situation in their air support. During my time in Afghanistan we were able to provide support and analysis for the following:
MI17 Fleet Availability Analysis - see above.
Conducted a wheeled vehicle study for the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police building a consensus from the entire Resolute Support staff on a way forward.
Afghan National Army Strength Forecasting Tool - which was translated into Dari and used by their G1 to make recommendations to their recruiting and retention efforts.
Analysis on enemy initiated attack trends using statistics that help the command understand the environment after US forces left the area.
Led Resolute Support staff for input into two Periodic Mission Reviews (PMR) for NATO.
Led Resolute Support staff for input into two US 1225 reports to Congress.
Provided the Resolute Support staff with a tool to measure the effectiveness of the campaign plan allowing each region the ability to assess their unit’s capabilities in a standard manner.
